First there was the 60 Something founded and directed by Mike McCullagh of McCullys Workshop fame started at Cape Towns V and A Waterfront in 1992 and was the first big tribute show of its kind. Paying tribute to top 60s artists like Petula Clark, Roy Orbison, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Tina Turner and many more, the show became an instant success and ran for over four years consecutively to more than 250,000 patrons. In 2008 the show was revamped and reopened at the Barnyard Theatre at Willowbridge to critical acclaim and played to packed houses. This year it is back and McCullagh on drums is joined by a fantastic cast of talented musicians and singers.

The show features a central character, Basil Pesto, who always wanted to produce his own TV show, so he gets onto a TV set and tries to do exactly that. In his excitement, he tells the audience theyre all part of the show and top artists from the 80s will be performing. In the frenzy of his production, some artists are late leaving our Basil to impersonate them with hilarious results. The show then rocks through the 80s with well known artists like Starship, Lionel Ritchie, George Michael, Cindy Lauper, U2, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Laura Branigan, Madonna, Sting, Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Queen, Roxette, Whitney Houston, Kool and the Gang and many more. Basil even gets audience members up on stage to participate Idols fashion, often resulting in hysterical situations. In true McCullagh tradition, by the end of the evening patrons are dancing in the aisles and singing along and many have come back three or four times. Heading the exceptional nine member cast is Keenan Arrison as Basil who with his amazing antics will have patrons rolling in the aisles and singing along. Sexy knockout Lucy Holgate pulls off brilliant renditions of Tina Turner and Roxette songs whilst Leani Ekermans shows that she is no slouch either with awesome Cindy Lauper and Madonna imitations. Riyaan Cornelius looks and sounds like Michael Jackson, although he also convinces the audience that he could be George Michael and Freddie Mercury, whilst keyboardist Kyle Petersen shows his wizardry, Mike himself is on drums. Neil Payton is on bass, Warren Lomberg on guitar and Morgan King on sax form the rest of this phenomenal rhythm section. If youre looking for a great party and a memorable fun filled night out, That 80s Show will have you screaming for more

Memoirs: The Music of Simon & Garfunkel Press Release

Simon & Garfunkel emerged in the early 1960s as a young, typically harmony enthralled folk duo. They had cut their teeth on The Everly Brothers, and knew the Great Traditional Songbook as well as the next folk group of their era. Driven by the same strivings of their American contemporaries to get into a good college, to please their parents, to be admired by their peers they were determined to have some fun along the way! As it turned out though, they were far from your average folkies. The two natives from Forest Hills, Queens, were musical sponges, and broke onto the Billboard Top50, at the age of 15 as Tom and Jerry as they called themselves then with The Everly Brothers knock off Hey Schoolgirl their first song ever written together.

Their debut studio album was Wednesday Morning, 3am in 1964, their last Bridge over Troubled Water, which remained the number one album on the Billboard charts for 6 weeks after its release date.

Vintage Productions SA present Aaron Nel who grew up with the music of Simon & Garfunkel constantly playing in his childhood home, in the small town of Marble Hall in Mpumalanga, South Africa along with fellow vocal artist Alistair Andrew, who has performed at the Pumpkin Theatre as well as numerous venues around the country. Some believe him to have the biggest vocal range as far as singers go in South Africa, and more specifically in Durban, where he does master classes in vocal training. Aaron playing guitar and both singing, blending into unique harmony, achieved only by two musicians who have the same level of appreciation for the sheer brilliance, yet simplicity that is Simon & Garfunkel.

Memoirs: the music of Simon & Garfunkel feature hit song such as Bridge over Troubled Water, The Boxer, Sound Of Silence, America, and many other foot stomping, hand clapping, sing along hits, as well as some of the more dramatic and poetic offerings from this duo, and is sure to entertain all who attend. Energetic! Dramatic! Poetic! Visually, and especially audibly entertaining stuff!

Mark Banks has become one of the most recognised and respected stand up comedians of his time. In 18 years of comedy, Mark boasts at least one new one-man show each year, of which he writes and performs all the material himself. Since his acclaimed inception to comedy, Mark has continuously played to packed houses nationwide. Widely recognised for his political satire and commonplace poke at the rich and famous, nothing and no one is sacred to Marks blatant humour. He says that the reason behind the silliness is that its easier to look at the other side of things that don't have another side, and if they dont have one, invent one.

The Bats are back… not trying to be the Bats in the sixties, they are in their sixties being the Bats! The new show is full of their latest songs and the comeback has brought with it a fresh and now sound that just shows what great musicians they are. They love their music as well as taking the mickey out of everything and everyone. If you have ever been lucky enough to see one of these fabulous shows, you will know that the Bats enjoy entertaining their audiences as much as the audience enjoys watching them. These four wonderful musicians will take you on a nostalgic and hilarious journey that spans the 40 Something years they have been in the business from their early hits of the sixties to their latest solo recordings, they will have you singing along and shouting for more.It all started in 1964 when the Bats, Eddie Eckstein, Paul Ditchfield, Pete Clifford and the late Barry Jarman burst onto the local scene and became, to many ardent followers, South Africas answer to the Beatles. They toured extensively, both locally and internationally, wowing audiences from here to the United Kingdom, Zimbabwe then Rhodesia and Germany with their brilliant music and hilarious comedy show. More than just great musicians, they were also great entertainers, and it was this that kept them at the top of their game for 16 years, an amazing achievement for any band.Eddie & the Bats won a Sarie Song of the Year Award in the early 70s with Whos that Girl and in 1972 Pauls composition Oh God its beautiful was chosen to represent South Africa at the Tokyo World Song Festival. Paul took Eddie with him to Tokyo to perform the song and they reached the finals. In 1980, with many hit singles, including In a shabby little hut and Vat Hom Dawie and a whole bunch of long playing vinyls under their belts, they decided to go their separate ways to pursue solo careers. This break just seemed to hone their talents because after 21 years, they are better musicians now than they were then!

Whenever and wherever you come across the Blarney Brothers you are sure to find a great big, foot stomping sing along party. Perhaps it is just because they simply play for the audience. Making music they know everyone will love. It is all helped along with a liberal flavouring of genuine Irish Blarney and humour because the Blarney Brothers are as Irish as shamrock and poteen. Their music is a mixture of Irish ballads, foot tapping pub songs, popular newies and the occasional Irish jig.It is a tribute to their popularity that 30 years after their first performance, at the Astra Hotel in Durban, they are still one of South Africas top five acts. In fact their history goes back even further as they served their musical apprenticeship playing in the Irish Showbands for 10 years before arriving on South African soil. The Blarney Brothers established their enduring and endearing name by playing at The Barn in The Athlone Hotel, Durban every Wed. and Fri. for 13 years. Since finishing there in 1991 they are now travelling further and further afield, often driving more than 10,000 kms a month all over South Africa and neighboring states such as Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho and even as far as Malawi. The Band has also performed internationally with great success. They have played in Taiwan, Hong Kong,Shanghai,Macau, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Australia and the UK. Paul, Damien and Tony are all fine vocalists and very musically talented with: Paul as the leader of the group, playing the keyboards, banjo and guitar. Tony plays the fiddle, bass guitar, mandolin, penny whistle and flute. Damien plays lead guitar and vocals. The Blarney Brothers six part television series, You dont have to be Irish was filmed on location in Ireland and screened on SATV on two occasions in 1994 and 1995. In February 1999 the Blarneys were the feature Band on South Africas number one TV program Noot vir Noot and on St. Patricks Day, March 99, they had a spot on The Kelly Show screened in Ireland. The Band have also made guest appearances on the Dali Tambo Show and The Tony Sanderson Show. They have made 12 albums of their popular sing along, party and Irish songs, the latest four, which are only available on CD are called You Dont Have to be Irish, Showtime, Party Collection and Dancing on the Tables

The iconic 1960s surf sounds of the three Wilson brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl plus cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine became an American musical institution as the Beach Boys parlayed a repertoire of songs about surfing, cars, and girls, with lyrics celebrating the easy beach and surfing lifestyle of southern California, into the basis for one of the countrys longest lasting success stories. Centrestage has assembled its top group of sweet voiced close harmony singers to emulate and recreate the gorgeous, intricate, trade-mark Beach Boys vocal sounds: Long haired surfer Alan Kozakjoins musical director Wayne Kallis as the pair combine classic acoustic guitar riffs and tight harmonies, joined by Thuba Mveki, Jace Bowren and Will Jensen . Over the past 49 years, the Beach Boy’s accolades have included more US top 40 hits than any other US rock band 36, being listed 12th on Rolling Stone magazines 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, and the number one-selling American band of all time by Billboard. The feel good selection of very well known and much loved hits includes the likes of Dance Dance Dance, Little Honda, I Can Hear Music, Surfin U.S.A., Dont Worry Baby, Barbara Ann,California Girls, Fun, Fun, Fun, Sloop John B, I Get Around, Help Me Rhonda, Wouldnt It Be Nice and Good Vibrations, amongst others.

Pieter Dirk Uys will be remembered for his first one-man show which opened on April Fools Day 1981 - ADAPT OR DYE. Adapt or die was said by Prime Minister P. W. Botha, when he announced his proposed revisions of apartheid policies as a prelude to the 1981 General  Election which was still for whites only. Uys started his onslaught against the politically-correct racist regime at the Market Theatre, then toured the entire country and overseas with his show. ADAPT OR DYE was the first local video – a recording of a Market Theatre performance in 1982 - to be introduced through hire-shops and those few outlets that had the courage to make the comedy available. That was its essence: humour. Fighting fear with laughter thirty years ago. 2012 will see Pieter-Dirk Uys close the bracket with a new onslaught against a politically-correct regime with ADAPT OR FLY. The Rainbow Democracy will be in its eighteenth year. The African National Congress will be gearing up for its crucial congress in Mangaung during the second half of the year. Everything in our country has changed and yet some things seem to be the same old story. Poverty, violence, crime, corruption, media control, confusion and fear were the realities of life during the 1980s. Has history repeated itself in some areas and turned tragedy into farce? ADAPT OR FLY was also inspired by politics. At the height of the Malema-speak of nationalization of mines and land-grabs of farms which frightened many people into near-panic, a spokesperson for the ANC Youth League was heard to suggest that if whites did not like the fact that the youth would take over South Africa, then they could go somewhere else:  Adapt or fly’
